In 1986 members of the club where my father had worked for 20 years rewarded him and the family with a golf trip to the Uk.
As our home club is a Ross design our final destination was Dornoch combined with some hiking in the highlands No need to make a tee time we were told by our American advisors, place is so remote and play is minimal.
So the plan was to watch the weather and see how our golf games were treating us to pick the best day to play. Well when we arrived we were told The Scottish Senior Women’s Championship was underway.
The look on my father’s face and the story of his journey must have effected the person in the golf shop. They allowed him and only him out as a single at 7:30 and he finished in the dark. The next day we went out and watched some of the championship and took in the course.
On the topic of stroke play golf, nothing has been worse for it than the transparency the internet provides. For so long only the best scores made the local paper, which worked well for nearly everyone.
