Request for Help - In Search of Muni Logo Balls
« on: December 29, 2020, 09:29:26 PM »
Ladies & Gentlemen,

I'm hoping to get some help from the group on a small touch we are trying to incorporate at Charleston Municipal as part of the renovation - below see the excerpt from a letter being sent to every municipal course in the country - I've also attached a link to the letter in case you would like to forward it to anyone who may be able to help. The plan is to create a display in an old pumphouse turned rain shelter that players will be able to visit between the 16th and 17th holes like a mini exhibit highlighting the history of the course and municipal golf across the country.

Happy New Year and here's to a great 2021!

Excerpt:
In celebration of municipal golf around the country, we are writing to ask you to send a logo golf ball from your (municipal) course to be added to our display of logo balls of municipal courses from across the United States.  It is our hope that by highlighting municipal golf in this way, we can help shine light on its important role as a place of inclusion, acceptance, and introduction to the game of golf for past generations and many to come.
We hope you will choose to participate, and request that you send the ball to course at 2110 Maybank Highway, Charleston, SC 29412 to the attention of “Muni Logo Project”
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out Cindi Katz, Marketing and Communications Director for Friends of The Muni, at lbfigs@yahoo.com.

Think they will need an annex, or they will find munis unwilling to spend $8-10 on merchandise + S&H.

 8)  Would do better with ball pics sent by phone...  make montage posters...  now has the impact on pace of play been considered??

Troy, I sent this on to our local politicos...I hope to hear back from them (or hope that you hear from them.)

By the way, it's a great idea. I will make the journey to see it.

There is a Facebook group of logo golf ball collectors. https://www.facebook.com/groups/tesman11

If you are on FB, I think if you post there, participants may send you what you are looking for. Some may want you to cover postage.

I appreciate all the help and feedback; I will post on Facebook in that group. I've already posted in the Society of Golf Historians FB Group, as well.

As for pace of play, I can say with great confidence I've taken it into consideration. Its a bit of a hot button issue for me, some might say.  This happens to fall at the tee of the 17th, a short 4 that I hope will entice many to wait for the green to clear before hitting their tee balls.

The inspiration for this came from memories of halfway houses where the bag tags act as wallpaper and the halfway house at PV with their ball rack.

I've been picking up what I can on my limited travels this year, but hope to gain enough critical mass to start this display by the spring.

Troy,

You may want to sprinkle in some oldies but goodies or rotate in and out to mess with peoples's heads!  Have you seen this site?
