Last Call for Cobb's Creek
« on: October 24, 2020, 08:54:04 AM »
Friday, October 30th is the last day Cobb's Creek will be played before going under a renovation/restoration by Gil Hanse & Jim Wagner, slated to re-open in spring 2023.

We are reserving a number of tee times that day for folks who are interested in playing the course one last time.   We've reserved a few slots around 10am and also closer to 2:30 and depending on demand I can grab a few more at various times this morning.   I know many of you have expressed support and interest in the project so if you're interested please either reply here or send me an IM and let me know if I can add you to our party.  I plan to be there all day and will likely play in and out with various groups.   It is $20, walking only as no riding carts will be available.  Conditions are marginal but the greens should still be in good shape, with the exception of #3 that was washed away in recent flooding (likely temp green).

Thanks...hope to see you there!

I will regretfully have to decline due to being trapped outside. As much as I would like to regale my GCA appetite with a before round at CC, please put me in a group on opening day in 2023. Much respect for the team's efforts in getting this to fruition, it's time.

Mike,

Count me in for the pm. I’ve been at Cobb’s 2-3 days per week the last couple months with my high school golf team. Overall, conditions are good, especially on the back. #3 still has the temp green and #5 fairway left of the creek is struggling, but that’s about it. The greens are good-ish.

I'm planning to arrive at Cobb's Creek about 11am tomorrow.

It's been pouring all day and will into tomorrow morning but rain should be done and winds dissipating by noonish.   The afternoon looks cloudy and temps in the mid-40s.

Pretend your in Scotland, dress in layers and you'll be fine.

Joe Bausch is pretty busy but will be over for a few hours mid-afternoon.   We have a few guest stars like Wayne Morrison lined up.  I'm trying to convince Geoff Walsh as well, but he may be rioting downtown at that time.  ;)

Looking at the tee sheet and the weather anyone who wants to get out should be able to and if folks want to join for a few holes here and there I'm sure we'll have that flexibility.

Hey, somebody's gotta represent!  ;D

Really looking forward to seeing the grand dame one last time before she gets ready for a redo.  Some people have no idea how good this is going to be. A game changer.

So appropriate that Cobbs Creek will be running fast and high today.

Pretty sure I won't be doing a Dinah Shore splashdown baptism at the end of today's round, but I'll be tempted.

James Brown,

It's projected to be about 2.5 years with opening in the late spring of 2023, is what was stated by the Cobb's Creek Foundation.

Peter,

Per your request;

Geoff Walsh and Mike Cirba on 4th tee

View of what the tee shot will look like when the original 13th is restored

Geoff Walsh teeing off on #1 being watched by L to R (Wayne Morrison, Eric Pevoto, Bill Dow)

Geoff Walsh approaching the 2nd green (with the same trio beyond watching)

Geoff Walsh plays down 18

The original Men's Locker Room, in more recent years the Superintendent's quarters which will be replaced with a new clubhouse.

One last pic of today's 6th green (original 12th green) to honor the United States and Philadelphia as the birthplace of freedom.

I'm hopeful that the next time you see this green it will look more like this...

Thanks Peter,

I told Jim Wagner that I'm going to hermetically seal myself in one of those hyperbaric chambers like Michael Jackson or perhaps get cryogenically frozen like Walt Disney so that I survive until the spring of 2023.
