I had not heard of this place until recently and man am I excited to make this place a stop the next time in Scotland.  I’ve never seen anything like it in person or picture.  Follow their Instagram....you’re welcome.

what's with the horizontal ripples across the fairways? Was thus an old lake bed? The site of a massive flood?

according to the club's website that is the result of rig and furrow when the land was used to cultivate flax. Also known as ridge and furrow. I think I encountered it at Alwoodley, but Forfar seems to be at an extreme.

John E. -

No, I have not been to Forfar. The only inland course I have played in Scotland is the 9-holer at Bonar Bridge.

Niall C has certainly played it.  We (me and three sons and Niall) were due to play an open there this Summer, before Covid intervened.  I think Niall's a fan.  We'll probably return next year.
In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Played it more times than I can remember, as it has a reciprocal agreement with my home club.

I've played it a couple of times, once with Jeff Warne and his son. Clyde Johnston has also played and from what I recall of speaking to him about it he liked it but not as much as me. It's not a long course and it is quite compact but has some cracking holes. If you were going to be critical of it you'd probably say that a lot of the par 4's were of similar length but that said there is terrific variety in layout. IIRC my green fees were £12 and £18 respectively. Fantastic value.

As Mark says, we were due to play there this year but got cancelled due to the pandemic. I think there was also a bit of chat about getting a Clan GCA outing there and maybe need to resurrect that idea for next year.

Brian - you've played it a lot, so presumably you rate it highly enough for it to bear repeat play.

I put "Forfar" in the gca search engine and it threw up 107 threads ! Our late friend Rich was a fan which I think says something.

Forfar +1
and a pleasant town to stay in during the Open Championship-just far enough away.
