Playing the same amount of golf as before Covid. After a lifetime of private club membership, I gave that up in favor of playing a wide variety of courses with a regular group. We play with a couple of leagues, but we limit play only to courses that provide single-rider carts.
Many courses do not provide single-rider carts. Surprisingly, the senior leagues do not require them. More amazingly, we’ve encountered courses that both require a cart and refuse to provide single-rider carts.
It’s all about profit for some courses, willing to pass the risk on to their customers. Everyone votes with their business. As long as customers are willing to risk it, some courses will force them to double up on carts.
This reduces the number of courses available to my group by about 50%, but leaves us ample options. I guess private clubs are more likely provide members with individual carts. If options dwindle, it may soon be time to return to private membership as an alternative to giving up the game.
I wonder if cart manufacturers will develop small single-rider carts. I realize that some exist today, but they’re pretty rare and don’t seem too well designed or marketed. I’m too old to try the skateboard style options!
