I wonder if they could keep the stands and just "lift the skirt" to bring the water back into play.  The sponsors wouldn't like that, but it mightn't it work golf-wise?

Cool idea, just wonder about the aesthetics. You'd have lots of exposed posts/scaffolding right behind the green.

Here's what the grandstand looks like "naked"...

That's not anywhere near as close to the green as the wall was. Players were able to walk around the other side of the wall and still had grass to stand on.

How close?

The median PGA Tour player averaged 16' from 50-75 yards out in the fairway in the 2020 season. https://www.pgatour.com/content/pgatour/stats/stat.076.y2020.html So that should give you some idea.

Anybody else like to see the course added to the Hope(or whatever they are calling it these days) rotation just to see what the PGA guys would score with 15% added distance? I would tune in. 8)

the LPGA players would still have gone for it on occasion without the absolutely stupid blue wall

next year the hospitality suites should be placed entirely in the water

removing golf design for the benefit of seats/advertising is just horrendous

this is just obvious to anyone who plays golf

ANA is very shortsighted
It's all about the golf!

The Great Wall of Dinah and the grandstands behind the 18th green are gone for this year. RIP.

Peter,
Well I hope they are also smart enough to move the tees way up otherwise all you will see will be driver/wedge layup and then wedge for their third shots.
