Congratulations to Ryan Alesovich for rising to the top and for winning the George Cup!
The day brought frequent drizzle and occasional light rain on a course featuring high pin locations pretty much all around. A highlight was playing the Goat Trak back nine as an eightsome.
An afternoon Goat Trak surge by Scott Weersing and his tied-for-best score on The Quiz (40%, would never cut it in my classroom but good enough this time) ended the formal competition in a tie. After securing a cart to light on the 18th green, a sudden-death playoff commenced from the Goat Trak tee box (~78 yard shot). In darkness at 10:15 p.m. (and in his dinner jacket), Ryan hit a towering shot to twelve feet (besting a great effort by Scott to about 20 feet) to take the trophy and its associated prestige (or lack thereof). He becomes the first player since George Cup I champ Andy Hughes to win in his debut effort.
I am planning to schedule George Cup XI in Spring, 2021. By then, Ballyhack will have 60 on-site rooms. All are invited and I hope you consider the opportunity.
