Huntercombe 1.  A short iron to start your round?  Why not?  And a tricky green that runs away from you.  Easy to be long but probably better than being short.  I love that it requires precision from the very start.
In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Warm agreement with Mark, although there will be some nominations for Lytham, Hayling and S&A.
As for the rare short 18th, Lindrick's beats Harlech's.

18 -- Pasatiempo.

For a first-hole par-3, I would go with The Berkshire (Blue), which is really a par-3.5 hole:  you can go for it, or play safe.

For the 18th, my favorite is still the finisher at Garden City Golf Club, Walter Travis' version of the Eden hole.  Pasatiempo is the other highly-ranked course with a par-3 finishing hole.

Here's a quick take:

1   Berkshire (Blue) - a tough opener
2   Somerset Hills - another great Redan
3   Olympic Club - tough P3
4   Royal County Down - one of the most scenic holes in golf
5   Royal Melbourne (West) - a wicked green
6   Riviera - love it for it's unique donut green
7   Pebble Beach - variability
8   Royal Troon - Postage Stamp - very narrow entrance
9   LACC (North) - tough shot
10   Pine Valley - Devil's ....
11   St. Andrews (Old) - dont go long
12   Royal Birkdale - visually deceptive
13   Muirfield - be straight
14   Royal Portrush - Calamity
15   North Berwick - the original Redan
16   Cypress Point - the most pleasurable setting in golf that I've seen
17   TPC Sawgrass - love it for its simplicity
18   Pasatiempo - don't be short

Boston Golf Club also comes to mind, with the admission that I have only experienced it vicariously.

Berkshire Blue is a cool opening hole. I am quite fond of the Cleveland and Alnmouth Village examples as well. My favourite could well be West Cornwall's from the back tee.

I like Crail's 18th more than any other I can think of.

I was trying to avoid picking more than one from the same course, but I would go with CPC for number 7 and St. George’s Hill for number 11. Both courses have a fantastic set of Par 3s rivaled in my experience by perhaps only Ballybunion and Swinley Forest. And I have played only two Colt courses! In fact, number 10 at Swinley would complete my 18.

I have to put in:
3 White Bear YC - the pulpit bunker short is an almost unique hazard hazard, at least in the US.

5 Fortrose & Rosemarkie

6 Dornoch on the list- better than Brora 6 but I love that one as well.

10 Dornoch (hmmmm a trend)
13 Rosses Point

16 Lahinch

So much golf to play, so little time....

Yes Tim,

I am also a big fan of Taconic's long and very natural 17th. Great finishing duo with Misquamicut's long finisher over a valley.

Does York have some nice features?  I don't know that course.
Thank you

Mark-York has a nice mix of holes over some varied terrain and is a sporty Donald Ross course at 6175 yards par 70.

One hole per course

1 - The Addington (I can't think of many others - WHO, but I'm not using that for this one)
2 - WHN
3 - RSG
4 - NGLA
5 - PV
8 - BPB
9 - Brancepeth Castle (don't see this mentioned often, but it has a monster set of par threes - 9 is the pick of the bunch)
10 - WFW
11 - WHO
12 - BPR
13 - Effingham - great little hole with a kidney shaped green that falls away on the inside part of the kidney. If you miss the green, you're pretty much either in sand or below the green. It's not very long (148), but a tough one.
14 - Deal
