Where would you buy a condo for retirement in Scotland?  What town/city and why?  This is my plan, but I’m so torn between so many amazing areas.  I’m curious what others feel are great areas to spend a couple months per year playing golf and relaxing if given the opportunity.

And stood in for Inverness in the first episode of Outlander.
However, being on the north side of the Lomond Hills, it’s dark all Winter long!

In Delaware now.  I have a long way to go (20years-ish) but if I can swing it I want to buy a one/two bedroom now so when I am ready to retire it’s already paid for.  The problem is where to buy or even where to start looking.  I really love the prestwick  area, the North Berwick are, but I also love St. Andrews area also.  I haven’t been to the highlands area yet.  This will be in 2021.  Maybe my mind will change. Close proximity to a fun club I can join is high in the list.

Niall, You might argue that the golf is comparable but as a place to live there is no contest. (IMHO of course  [size=78%]). [/size]

I would buy a place in Dornoch and settle in for every summer from May until October and spend the rest of the year home in the USA.  I joined Dornoch two years ago and that is my plan for about 10 years from now god willing.

Any advantages to buying rather than renting for a month or three?
Given that you can't take it with you....
Of course in my case I have the advantage of writing off all(golf) travel(is there any other type?) as an expense

I would look into Dunbar. I think it will be gentrified somewhat like N Berwick has been. 20 years may be the perfect timetable.
