Longest stretch of great holes

Even a great course has some only okay holes. 3-13 at Lahinch is the longest stretch that I have experienced of very good holes. North Berwick 8-16 is next.

I don’t remember all the holes at Lahinch but I do remember the 1st and 2nd at Lahinch as not being anything special. You can’t forget 4 thru 6. 18 was weak but it was my favorite course in Ireland.

1-12 at NGLA? Eden is certainly not a bad hole, but seems to get characterized as relatively tame compared to other renditions.

There’s an argument for 1-18 at NGLA all being great. I agree that 13 is the least great of the par 3’s.

This is a hard question to answer this way, because it depends entirely on the threshold for "great" and how much you are willing to ignore.  I love every one of the courses mentioned so far, but if I'm not just going to call all 18 holes on them great, I would have stopped the count on 2 or 5 or 9 at NGLA, 12 at Pine Valley, or 7 at Lahinch.

It's easier to discuss this subject by choosing a certain number of holes and deciding which course has the best stretch of that length; that way you can factor the negatives accordingly.

If that is the question:

3 hole: 7, 8, 9 at CPC
4 hole: 13-16 at NB
7 hole: 4-10 at Swinley Forest

Need to think about 5 and 6.

Best 7 hole stretch that I know is 11 to 17 at The Old Course.

Best 5 hole: 2-6 at Royal Dornoch
Best 6 hole: 3-8 at Lahinch

I found the 5 hole question toughest for me. 14-18 at Streamsong Blue, 11-15 at Ballybunion Old (includes 3 Par 3s), and the first 5 at PH2 and last 5 at Waterville all awfully strong. 10-14 at St George’s Hill too.
