A lot of low scores...

Tour players with slender carry bags. Untucked polos. Biggie Smalls blasting during the pro-am. A live-stream with mid-round questioning of the players. Logo-free hats, Vegas betting lines, a $130,000 purse…this week’s Scottsdale Open is a mini-tour event that has gone big-time, with all the culture clash that suggests. “Some of these guys are rolling up with a 42-ounce Polar Pop from Circle K, other guys are grinding on the practice green with their chalk lines and putting aids,” says Joel Dahmen, the PGA Tour vet who is 70th in the World Ranking. “It’s a different vibe, for sure. It’s kind of refreshing, actually.”

Funny to see players playing in “small” purse events and having fun getting in needed practice under the gun

What purse changes will be incoming and how will it all be received?

Alex Cejka , PGA Tour player, won two other Mini-Tour events in AZ, including a 6 shot comeback on the final 6 holes to win the Parker Open at Emerald Canyon, a " hidden gem"  according to many pundits, including myself. Cejka is now eligible for the PGA Champions Tour.

The winner was a friend of mine, Zach Smith, who grew up in the Bay Area, played at UCSB, and lives in Arizona now. Yes, he was a long shot. But he's gotten better and better every year, and -18 on a par 70 is serious golf.

The only element of dismay was the lack of social distancing by many of the people involved with the event. It's not that hard. Just don't stand next to each other!
