Royal County Down Changes?
« on: May 11, 2020, 03:30:10 PM »
2 Questions about one of my (and everyone else who has played it) favorite courses in the world:

1) I have read on TD's "Well Enough Alone" thread about changes being or already been made at RCD and I'd like to hear about them good or bad.  Can't find anything online describing any work.

2) Have the dunes just north that run for almost 2 miles along the shore ever been considered for golf?  I never got the chance to really see or explore them not remembering a spot on the championship course where you could see much.  Are they too big for good golf?  Is the dune system highly protected?  Is there already enough golf on offer at RCD with 36?

Cheers,
Will

The dunes you talk of were partly used for three new holes on the Annesley course a few years ago: MacKenzie & Ebert.

About the same time, changes were made to the 18th on the main course.

A number of years before that, the 16th was completely re-routed at 90 degrees to previous direction.

Not sure what else - not too close to the history on RCD
