Golf courses not open during the summer? (ANGC related thread)
« on: November 11, 2020, 12:23:24 PM »

Besides Augusta National, what are the top courses closed for the summer? Bonus points if non-U.S.

In other words, how would golf architecture change if courses were built for the "off-season"?

How many courses would be improved if they could take the summers off?

ANGC is one of the few courses where the native Bermuda is never used as play turf. Pardon, but I don't have Tom Doak's Confidential Guide for Winter courses. I don't see another thread on this topic and was curious.

Seminole

I would imagine a good number of second clubs in snowbird territory close as well.

Whispering Pines in Texas has two split seasons, closing during part of winter and summer.

Indian Creek, FL
Don't play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.

I know its a tough one to get on but if you ever have a chance to play Indian Creek please try not to miss. It's one of the best "easy" golf courses ever! Also for GCA enthusiasts you can see just how good the "Nature Faker" aka William Flynn was, you could play this place (if you had the loot ) every day and always enjoy the golf!

p.s.  but not in the summer

Indian Creek is pretty high on my bucket list. Lots of people I know who I respect talk very highly of this golf course! Flynn is my favourite
