The ping moonlite carry bag is constructed with a waterproof bottom so when it is laid down it stays dry inside. It works quite well. I have never had any issues with my grips getting too wet and even if they were a little wet, nothing a towel cant fix.

Folks always say this but I've owned to MacKenzie bags and have never had an issue with wet grips, despite playing most of my rounds in the early mornings.

Pat-I’m not talking about just the MacKenzie bags specifically but anything that gets laid in the wet early morning grass is at peril. For dry conditions the no kickstand bags are generally lighter and work well.

I think the Sun Mountain 2.5 is really good.  Very light with stand.  There are some very cool bags without a stand but as we get older not having to bend down to pick it up is a real plus.

Thanks again all.  Nice ideas and now I'm going to let my Scottish side check out the prices. I'm thinking a stand works for me as I'm not averse to playing in some bad weather. The big decision is to double strap or not. At present I'm thinking yes to two straps.

I had 6 high strength, durable, wear resistant, ballistic, carbon fiber bags in my garage. All were worn through, torn, had broken stands, straps, etc. For well less than the combined purchase of all, I bought an Eliott Bag Co. full leather bag. Perhaps not as light as some miracle fabrics, I have carried it for some 800 rounds over the past 5 years and when I asked for a change in the bag a couple of years after purchase I returned it and the work was provided at no cost. You won't get that from any of the "big name" manufacturers. As for the stand, so was born MickleStix.

I sprang for a hyper lite zero Calloway bag- 2.5lb right before a Scotland trip in '18.  I like having a full stand, double strap, and a full set of pockets.  I didn't expect it to be durable because it feels so light and flimsy, but so far no issues.  I try to walk and carry every round and I don't like using pull carts, so it was worth it for me to save a little bit of weight. 


Heavier bags are just going to be more durable though and that's part of the trade off.

I'm curious... why would someone get shit for being double strapped? If I remember correctly, you are a zero strapper, so why do you care either way?

Michael, there is a class of golfer, at least on social media, that shuns the double-strap and the integrated stand.  These discerning customers prefer a single strap bag hand-crafted of the finest materials by skilled artisans to exacting specifications using old-world techniques, with separate trestle sticks.  Something worthy of heirloom status.  Something more than a "light carry bag that works."  I might be tempted myself, but at age 60, I find the double-strap easy on the old back, and, given my experience with Sun Mountains, I would have to be walking and carrying to age 90 before the hipster bag paid for itself.  And that's assuming I just held cash and didn't invest the savings in bitcoin.

I also like the Shapland bags- you can add your  club logo if you like. I've had the Mackenzie walker bag when it had a metal frame on the inside, which I didn't especially like, but they do last forever. Of course when I bought the leather model it was about $200 vs $700+ today! The Ping Moonlite bag is also excellent, and has 2 straps, which for my back is better. Add Mackenzie Trestle Sticks or MickleStix from Jay, and you're all set with gear that you will love and others will want.

I  had Scott make me a new bag at the end of last season that is the coolest bag I've ever seen.  I am now a 100% trolley walking guy, so the stand bags just didn't sit very well in a trolley (the leather Eliott Bag I have rides perfectly in the trolley).  Everything Scott makes is top drawer...

Bernie - I understand the snobby bag stuff from some "purists." I walk nearly 100% of my rounds and I've heard it all over the years. But, I'm baffled why the number of straps someone prefers means anything to golfers who never walk or carry anything heavier than their wallets. Totally baffled.
