I would just as soon see a match between Norman and Faldo. I probably wouldn't watch Phil vs. Tiger if they were playing at my club.....for free.

Come on Jim....really??

I can't wait to watch.  I love golf, and watching two of the all-time greats (even past their prime) compete on a course I am very interested in seems a pretty great way to spend 3 to 4 hours.  I think it will be lots of fun.

But would he watch Phil vs. Tiger at his club for free...and if they used fewer than 14 clubs??

Frankly, I am completely shocked that the entire purse isn't going to charity, and that charity isn't the main reason for Tiger and Phil to even participate.

I just can't imagine a more perfect scenario for it. It's such an any easy way for them to score some points in the public eye. But the way it's organized at the moment seems almost intentionally to make golf look bad: two insanely wealthy athletes playing for money they don't need on an overly-manicured, exclusive, and expensive course in the desert.

I'm not being naive or holier-than-thou, I'm legitimately surprised and I hope something changes between now and Thanksgiving.

Jason,

While I think the event has interest, its the execution and details that are a missed opportunity.

1)  PPV?  For real?  I think they're going to lose a lot of eyeballs who would otherwise check it out.
2)  The purse.  As I and others have noted, it doesn't really mean anything to them, so why pretend it does?  At this point the only thing these guys care about is W's in real events.
3)  They could play for something more interesting, ...like loser gets a tattoo of the other guys mug or something.  Some real skin in the game.

I do think the venue is cool, and as a GCA member, seeing the course would be the main reason I would tune in, but sure as hell won't drop 50 bones

I spent $20 just on popcorn, soda and chocolate while watching Rich Crazy Asians last week. I doubt that I am too proud to pop for this event.

btw: I got a little Phil in me and can promise you that he wants to win this as badly as anything he has ever attempted. That's the problem with being a gambler.

I had just gotten home from a colonoscopy when I posted yesterday, so I was pretty cranky. Besides, they don't call me "Crusty" without cause.

I have been watching professional golf for 60 years, and I'm just losing interest. I have also seen about all of Tiger and Phil that I care to. This match is taking the silly season to a new level. One reason I don't pay much attention to the tour these days is the over-the-top coverage of every shot Tiger and Phil hit even when they are nowhere near the lead. In recent months it seems that the headlines every day is how Tiger did with little mention of the leaders or the winner. I've just had it up to here with these guys. Never was a fan of either.

I guess I would go watch the match if it were played at my club just to see how the course holds up. I don't think I would watch on free tv. What I really would pay to see would be a rematch of Norman and Faldo at Augusta National with Norman starting out with a 6 shot lead. or maybe Bubba and Louie.

Pay for view ok, but my limit for this match is $1. Quite sure I will be on the golf course on Thanksgiving anyway.

I might pay to watch if they each put up their own money.

If the winner does donate all winnings to a charity, that would raise my view of the winner no matter who it is.
Both, if they declare to do so before the match.

The PGA Tour has to sign off?!? Break that contract.
