Wonderful to hear you finished the book as I can't think of a better living authority on the subject. I'll send you an email for an order. My favourite rural (expansive) course - Highlands Links, and favourite in an urban setting, Westmount.

Ian, quite looking forward to your book.  Have sent you an e-mail for the details.

In terms of fav Thompson course like Jamie I would go with Highland Links.  The highlights for me:
- perhaps the best set of par 5s anywhere
- the 2nd
- a couple of short par 4s on the front nine including for sure the 4th
* the overall experience better than the sum of the parts (holes)

Some day would like to play Banff, Jasper and Capilano.

My copy arrived last night, and I've spent most of this afternoon reading Ian's writing and staring at the pictures. The graphics showing individual holes and full routings are particularly attractive and helpful. Focusing on the building of five courses over two decades helps give the book a nice pacing. Perfect blend of biography and gca study guide.



Really, the entire book is fantastic, and deserves a place on shelves next to the similar offerings from Bhato, Klein and Doak.

A job well done Ian, congratulations!

Can't believe the book got to Alabama, quicker than to New York. Ah, well. Mine arrived today. I thumbed through, and anticipate a thorough read over the next few days. Thanks for your hard work, Ian.


Would Thompson have shaved behind 11 green at Cherry Hill? Would Thompson have built the 11th at Cherry Hill?

Things are run a little tighter in New York these days, not so much in Alabama. My copy made it cross country in the same amount of time. It is still in its wrapper for the time being.

I received my copy today so they are starting to trickle into Canada as well.

The book looks wonderful Ian!  Now I have to get out to play the three courses in AB and BC.

I have done a quick read through and enjoyed your book so far.  Isn't it amazing that Trent Jones took credit for Calilano, Dick Wilson took credit for Shinnecock and Red Lawrence took credit for Indian Creek (both Flynn).
