No slight intended, but because picking par-5’s from totally bunkerless courses makes the question far to easy to answer. There’s a lot of golf knowledge and experience herein so between those posting let’s pick some choices that require a bit more thought in the first instance.

That doesn't make any sense.  The question is, what are the best example of bunkerless par 5s worldwide.  Why shouldn't we discuss those on courses that are bunkerless courses?  My gut feeling is that, actually, the par 5s are rarely a strong feature on bunkerless courses.  It's no easier to design a bunkerless par 5 simp[ly becaues you're not using bunkers on the other holes, so I see no reason we shouldn't discuss them.

I remain unconvinced but each to their own.

Recently we were trying to come up with the best bunkerless holes in Ireland, there was plenty of great par 3s and 4s but seemed to be practically no great par 5s and it was even a struggle to come up with a couple of examples.
What are the best bunkerless par 5s worldwide?

Was that a thread on the Ireland holes? Thomas mentions one above but it’s noticeable that out of the six holes that Steele / Ebert added to Enniscrone, all six of them were bunkerless and four of them were Par-5’s, perhaps the best being 16.

There wasn't a thread on the best bunkerless holes, I was compiling them on twitter and facebook.

Mark is right in my opinion. Your point of view would be the same as saying name great par fives with bunkers but they not from courses with bunkers on every hole  If a hole is good it is good.

Until I re-checked, I thought both 6 and 15 at Fishers were (the have framing greenside bunkers) as well as 16 at Yale...


All three tend to play bunkerless..just one "ok" (#6 Fishers) and two BORING ass holes, the least memorable holes on their otherwise fine courses...

Mark is right in my opinion. Your point of view would be the same as saying name great par fives with bunkers but they not from courses with bunkers on every hole  If a hole is good it is good.

Of what?  with bunkers, without on what type of course and naturally can I use courses with no bunkers if it is bunkerless ones you want.


For a bunkerless on a course with bunkers I would put forward the 10th hole at Dewsbury District GC. Always a good, strategic hole to play even with the internal OOB. Maybe you are familiar with it

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the 2nd hole at Peachtree in Atlanta. Maybe the best hole on the course and maybe one of the best holes RTJ Sr ever designed.

The 10th at Dewsbury seems from the web/video a hole that needs quite a bit of care with the approach. I didn't know much about the Club until I looked it up. Quite a history what with OTM's involvement etc. Thanks for highlighting it Jon.

The western isles of Scotland immediatly came to mind as potential candidates
I haven't got round to playing Askernish, South Uist but looking at the pictures  it appears the Par 5's are also bunkerless
Who needs bunkers?

12th has a bunker in front of the green.
1st and 6th are bunkerless
