I wonder how they play later in the year without displacing another tournament. I am not sure the Masters will be played this year at all.

Tommy, the whole season is up in the air, don't you think?

The lovely thing, besides of course the way we're all trying to take care of eachother and minimize the spread of the virus, is that all we'll have left this season is to get out and actually play golf instead of watching it on tv. The game itself, outdoors in the fresh air, seems even more special than it usually does.

Opposite the Bermuda Championship in late October
Not a lot of crossover there-perfect turf conditions-if they don't overseed
Wonder if the money/Fedex points go into 2020 or 2021 :)

It would seem to me that recreational golf would be a good thing to do in the face of this virus - outdoors and relatively isolated.

I wonder what the recommendations will be and whether courses are at risk of shutting down.

As the rest of society is getting paid to stay home our hard working golf and maintenance professionals deserve the same. So many of us forget as we play our emergency nines that they have lives too.

I am wondering the same as a game is scheduled with the usual suspect at ten bells tomorrow. The venue is public and there is nothing to indicate any disruption as I pen this. Fingers crossed!!!

Rest of society staying home? Certainly not health care providers. Just spoke to someone who spent 12 hours alone in an isolation room with a violent psychotic being tested for CV. Hospital security would not enter room to ensure the safety of the hospital employee.

This thing isn’t fun for health care workers, especially if you have a patient that should be in a psych ward. I’d much rather be cutting grass.

Tim,

Sorry, I’m in Orlando. Disney is the rest of society. Of course emergency personal are different. I even climbed in a snow plow once in Chicago. Not a good night for mail boxes.

My daughter's significant other works in a hospital -just worked on a heart patient who it turns out, also has CV.
Scary stuff and a lack of tests available has them awaiting their symptons to show before they can get tested-while in quarantine.
I tire of brainwashed people not grasping this is real and that preventative measure being taken are to avoid being Italy(where doctors are literally picking who lives and who dies in a wealthy city), though our first 8 week( lack of tests)third world response has been abysmal and has created the need for mass cancellation/inconvenience, which may precede more draconian measures.
Who gives a shit if a test is "free" if you can't get one in time to prevent more spread; and those waiting to show symptoms, so they can qualify for a rationed test, don't give a crap about a payroll tax credit.

Jeff-Your post nails it man. It’s like worrying about the insurance consequences of breaking your car windows as it sinks.

I'm guessing not about the golf as much as it is the socialized settings involved. My Tuesday travelling group was going to play a private club and they cancelled us because of our assumed gathering together after the round. Cart girl, snack shack and pro shop desk are most exposed. Had someone ask me if I'd share cart. Nope.

Jeff,

A big challenge is the lack of day light as that weekend is the back end of day light savings. It seems even in April with long days at the beginning of day light savings time the Masters is always finishing on the brink of being too dark.

And less important to many and more important to some is that weekend is Florida - Georgia weekend.

Jason,

I was at a course in DC yesterday and they removed all the little pin flags from the putting green and suggested that all putts are made with the flag stick in.

Was talking to someone in Augusta today and they were telling tales of people who had purchased tickets and had asked for refunds from the person who sold them and threatened to contact ANGC if not done  AND  many homes are rented each year and the owners take vacation at another place as well as pay annual property taxes with those funds.  Not sure how Masters is rescheduled since a town the size of ANGC will need the private housing etc to make it all work...

Mike -

I am hearing the same things. A friend rents several private homes during Masters week that he re-rents to tournament visitors. He is out about $100K. There are thousands of 'non-transferable' badges have been bought and transferred, etc. How do you push all that forward to a still undetermined date later in the year? Even the best case scenario will be a mess.

And now the PGA has been postponed.

With the Olympics this year, the rescheduling is going to be a mess.

The French Open tennis, to be held May 24 to June 7, has been postponed to late September.

I really wonder whether the US Open and the Open Championship will be held this year, given the need for the lengthy qualifying rounds that both tournaments require.

Canceling local qualifying for men's and women's US Opens.  To be determined how qualifying will work.

The Masters won’t be played this year I’m afraid.  Let’s just hope and pray this all passes faster than some think it will take!

That your prediction? I tend to agree. But I've heard that October 8-11 is the new possible date.
