Cheers. I forgot I have a copy of the limited edition version. I was even more surprised to find it was signed by you in 2008? I have no memory of purchasing the book. I do recall buying the photo edition, though much earlier than 2008. Any recall of how I came to have a signed copy?

I only sold ~850 of the original 1000 books at the time (pre internet) and had the rest lying around the garage, so a few years ago I sold a bunch of those at the original $100 price and donated the proceeds to charity.

(Until someone violated the spirit of the deal by reselling a book online for much more.)

I found my first copy of the 1000 edition at Rhod McEwan's bookstall at the 1993 or 1994 British Open. I knew about it from Tom Ramsay printing single critiques of Australian courses in his newspaper column years before - so I assume he had one of the original 40?

I think the book came from you as it is signed to me. It sucks when the memory goes!

Ciao

Mystery solved. I looked for my edition with the photos and it was nowhere to be found. So I rifled through the signed edition and found your address. This triggered my memory. We swapped books. You sent me a signed copy and I sent you my copy because you wanted to give it to a client. Any idea which client has the book I purchased in Hay on Wye for less than a tenner?

Yes, Tom Ramsay had one of the original 40 books.

I am traveling today so I can't check tge date of the limited edition, but I gave away the first 80 of those to everyone who attended the inaugural Renaissance Cup at High Pointe, and I'm pretty sure that was in the fall of 1994.  So I would question your memory on the year you first found one.

Tom,

Maybe have been the 1995 Open at St Andrews. I remember running into Laura Norman in the exhibition tent in 1995 and telling her to buy The Spirit of St Andrews for Greg.
He saw me the next day and told me he was up all night reading it!
