Visually identifying American GCA's
« on: November 30, 2019, 09:01:56 AM »
Kudos to Thomas for starting us off with what for many of us was an embarrasing exercise in ignorance for UK GCA's.  I failed miserably and let's see how everyone else does here. Some of these I dug a little bit as they are obvious.  Apologies to the famous golfers Nicklaus, Crenshaw, and Palmer as they were too obvious and earned their place certainly.  Let's see how bad the formatting gets.

I recognize nearly everyone here except I have no idea who is W.

PS. A couple of these might have been slightly harder had you managed to crop out a logo of one of their courses 😉

Bonus round as sticking with 26 is not enough IMO for the American pride we all have. I wanted to put more, but I got fatigue, sorry as I know there are some on here deserving no doubt.

As a former head coach I used to work for would say when someone's idea fountain was running full speed: "That's a great idea! Your on it!"

Ironic Tom, that's one of the ones I did get immediately.  Think West Coast.

For those of us outside the business, it's enlightening to reinforce we know all the names of "recent" architects but sometimes not the faces!!

Derek:  Are you sure about #4?  John was my housemate for several months and I did not recognize him in this photo.  (Of course, we were only 23 or 24 back then.)

I'm shocked, actually. Flabbergasted.

William Flynn looks husky in his photo.

I'd love to have seen the photo of Alfred Tull that everyone thinks is Mackenzie.

I actually did recognize Flynn's photo, not sure why.

I don't know why you are surprised I can't identify some of these guys by their photos.  I can pick Thomas's work out of a lineup, but he hasn't been able to stand in one in a long time.

You're right, it's Billy Casper (I Google imaged him). But why is he included in an architect thread? -- I'm not aware of him designing golf courses, at least not on any meaningful level.

I think it's one of the two photos of Thomas I've seen. It is certainly the most published. You have the most photographic memory I know so that does come as a bit of a shock!

The other photo, coincidentally, is him standing in something of a lineup!

Thank goodness!  It was Forrest Fezler, not John Harbottle.  I'd have had guilt for days if I'd forgotten what John looked like.

I got "A" right - Jan Bel Jan - and then got stuck!

I played with Jan and Mark Hollinger at Alwoodley a few years ago and she was lovely.
