Visually identifying GB architects

Scroll down past the initial letters to see photos of various British golf course architects and pro/architects from days gone bye.
Who's who though?
Watch out for an interloper :)
Good luck.

That photo of Hugh Alison looks like the sort of thing the police would issue...

I feel foolish that I can only identify a few of these.

I believe I know who E, N and R, are.

Is "M" the famous Ted Ray?  Did he ever design a course?

I thought M was JH Taylor. Now I’m not so sure.

Hint - photo not taken in the country or commonwealth of CHA’s birth. Very popular architect there though. Even named a particular feature after him.

Excellent Niall.
All bar B, D and L are correct.
Very astute getting O - it was impossible for me not to include at least one interloper and he seemed the perfect choice given his track record.
T is another astute spot too.

Thanks, I don't know whether to be happy or sad that I'm such a sad b*****d that I actually know this stuff !

In terms of B and L I originally thought B might be Guy Campbell but then I was sure he was H. I originally thought L was Colt but then figured it might also be Alison so switched the two around.

I feel I should know P but can't quite get it. A pro turned architect by the looks of him. R looks like he could be a Hawtree but that is a pure guess.

Going back to D, that's not a photo of Simpson, is it ? He was not a man that liked being photographed and a shot of him being caught off guard as he looked the other way seems likely.

I feel foolish that I can only identify a few of these.

I believe I know who E, N and R, are.

Is "M" the famous Ted Ray?  Did he ever design a course?

You ought to be ashamed not recognising B. A cheque may be cancelled!

I am shocked L hasn't been identified!

Looking at the list, I don't see Simpson. So I will guess that for D. Though I never recall seeing a club in his hand nor being what appears to be very short.

I thought that might be Col. Hotchkin, but I didn't want to get it wrong and be ridiculed on that end.  Didn't think I would get that treatment anyway.  >:(

I was also going to guess Tom Simpson for D, as Niall did.  My rationale was that not many golf architects in history would dress like that.

Thomas I didn't want to respond as I am embarrassed to not know hardly any. :(
I'm sure it took you some time to find all those photos, good work.

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Sourcing the photos was quite quick and easy. Posting them herein less so.

I was very impressed with Niall's spot of Maurice Flitcroft, "the interloper" - see this link for Wiki's summary of his life, quite a character -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Flitcroft - and also for spotting Major Charles MacKenzie rather than his more famous and not dissimilar looking brother Dr Alister.

Perhaps when all the blanks have been completed someone else will do a North American version.

It's now a bit like the final pieces of a jigsaw........ we have the Colt piece, the ACM Croome piece (?) and the Simpson piece. Should have stuck with initial thought on L  :-[

D is definitely Simpson. His playing companion, Molly Gourley, was cropped from the original picture.

You should have stuck with your original thought on L for, as hinted elsewhere, it is Harry Colt.

Only 1 remaining and it’s not ACM Croome.

Who is the mysterious Mr ‘P’ ?

P is CK Cotton.

It’s actually quite tricky to search for CK Cotton images to check.  You get endless photos of Calvin Klein cotton underwear!
