IMO:The two most appreciated golf courses on GCA, head to head
« on: November 26, 2019, 12:26:22 AM »
After 10+ years of participating on GCA, my observation is that two of the most architecturally appreciated golf courses seem to be North Berwick and the National Golf Links.  I've played them each a few times, but not many.  I just tried to do an honest head to head comparison and was surprised.  At the end, the score was 9-9 for me and I even had two holes scoring 3/4-1/4 (#3 and #11).  I have almost zero love for the opening of NGLA until #4.  I also think there is nothing quite like the stretch from #s 12-17 at NB. That said,  I'm sure passions run deep and I would appreciate any shared opinions.

You kinda lost me at "zero love for the opening at NGLA until #4".

I think both courses have a similar rhythm and pacing to them:  they grab your attention right away with some really unique holes, hide their dullest holes in the stretch from 5 to 9, and then start up again on the tenth tee for a terrific stretch heading home.
