Old Toccoa Farm
« on: October 23, 2019, 03:18:20 PM »
Recently I learned about a new golf course/club in the north Georga mountains called Old Toccoa Farm. It's just north of Blue Ridge, Georgia and is part of a mountain/river/golf residential development.

I was wondering if anyone has much knowledge of the place/golf course, and has any information to share about it. From what I've seen it's on a pretty rugged with almost 300' of elevation change across the golf course.

Interested in anyone's info, thoughts, opinions...

At the risk of taking this thread off topic immediately, Camp Toccoa in Georgia was where U.S. Army paratroopers trained in WWII. It was made famous in the Band of Brothers book/TV series. "Currahee!"

18-hole flyover.

Looking at the flyover is what prompted my interest... Looks equal parts stunning, and a potential haven for lost golf balls.

Played the full 18 a couple weeks ago.  Best public course in Georgia in my opinion.  Tons of fun to play with a fantastic set of greens.

Axeland and Procter of WildHorse Fame ! I rode the property with Dan Procter a couple of years ago when it was a nine holer. Dramatic property with lots of elevation changes! New nine just opened recently. I'm looking forward to seeing finished product.

What is the SLOPE? 160.
It reminds me of Koolau in Hawaii.
Miss a fairway or green and your ball is lost or unplayable.
Low maintenance = high scores.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

I bet there is no pro shop that is busier than Koolau for balls.  You think you have enough and then realize you were way wrong!  They even have a Jurrassic Golf Package.  ;D

Bernie, if you join, will you be known as Taccao Bell?

That is one tight driving course, only 14-16 even look like you got a chance, between long forced carries and narrow corridors.  Then the greens have natives 5-10 feet off the putting surface.

Must be designed for the best damned golfers in the entire world!

I have played the recently opened nine once and the other nine seven tines.  The course is more open than it looks with just a few exceptions. The greens are really fun and the setting is spectacular.  If you are in the area, I would recommend checking it out.  I doubt you will lose too many golf balls.

It's a tough site but there's more room than there appears. Dan and Dave (and Jack Dredla) did everything they could to find ways to slow down the ball when it landed. There are some really cool created landforms in the fairways.

They will have to be careful with all the long grasses around the bunkers and greens -- there will be lost balls just paces off some of the greens. Crews will have to be diligent in knocking that stuff down.

Jack Dredla. I haven't heard that name since I worked at Friars Head. He "taught" me how to play blackjack when I was 20, 21 years old. Sat around the kitchen table with Jimbo Wright & Jeff Bradley while Jack "taught" me how to play. His "teaching" cost me about $200 that night. Worth the memory, though.
