Whoever has organized these recent Mashies has both very good taste and — what I appreciate even more — some of that good old fashioned moxie! Yeah, yeah: great architecture, sure, of course; but it’s show business, baby, showtime! Entertainment! Give the people what they *want*, not what’s supposed to be *good for them*. I’ve said it before, though Tom D doesn’t seem to recognize it: ie the most important thing he learned from Pete Dye (especially at Sawgrass) was how to be a showman. Do something *big*, show off more than a little bit, strut your stuff! That’s what Pete Dye knew and what I think Tom took from him, ie that no one comes to the Main Stage at the Sands to see the second banana — they want to see Sinatra! And a special appearance by Anne Margaret! So think of it: The Loop: it’s not one golf course it’s *two* — but it’s the *same course* — but it’s *not*! (‘Hey man, I have got to see this!’). Don’t you see - it’s the Old Course, but in Michigan! That’s what I’m talking about: moxie!
Great choice.
Can’t in good conscience sign up and say I’m ‘in’, cause I know it’s a new thing for me and I’m very liable to back out. But I’ll be lurking until the day approaches and jump in at the last minutes if there’s unexpected room for me.
Besides the course which is absolutely my cup of tea, you want ‘golf as it was meant to be played’? How ‘bout 36 holes and good accommodations and filling meals for $400 all in!
Very nice work fellas; even if I can’t play I know I owe you thanks for putting in the time and effort.
