Sunset was originally built as a nine hole course in the early 1920s. In the late 1940s or early 1950s, the club's head professional, Ed Riccoboni, built new grass greens and rerouted some holes on what became the front nine and designed nine more holes. (Mr. Riccoboni designed several other courses in the midlands of SC as well.) I was blessed to grow up playing there. It was a fun course to play and a good course on which to learn the game.

Unfortunately, like a number of other clubs, Sunset suffered from a declining membership over the last few years. The good news is that a new owner purchased the course earlier this year and appears to be making some substantial investments in the course and the club's various buildings. From looking at the drawings of the new course, it appears that the front nine routing will remain roughly the same (with the addition of several ponds) while the back nine appears to have some substantial changes.
