I’m beginning to believe that deferring until next year is the easiest option. The airline and the courses booked would love keeping our money for another year and I would know I have bookings set.

On reflection, I think that when I say "I'd still be keen to attend!" I actually mean I'd still be keen to meet up with a bunch of GCAers to play golf in September.

The event I was organising for the Sunday Monday of the Buda weekend has been postponed until next year (all be it later in September 2021) and the club and hotels were very happy to do this. If we did the same for Buda by postpoining Kington until 2021 then any of our friends that need to travel from overseas keen to attend that Buda would still be able to attend it. Then perhaps us UK based chaps can still manage to get together in September?

I'd be happy to look into a possible couple of days at Hollinwell in September if anyone was keen? Alternativly the booking I had on the Sunday and Monday was at Woodhall Spa so I suspect they might still have space for us to play there? OR we all go for Kington anyway and get plenty or practice ahead of the main event next year!  ;D

Cheers,

James

Feels like UK will go from forced quarantining to banning Yanks. I don’t blame them.

Sean,

Would it be best to delay Kington BUDA til 2021 like the Ryder Cup has done. This would allow for as many overseas players to play the course if the opportunity doesn't arise this year which I think is more unlikely as time gets nearer.

Kind Regards
Ben

I have long suspected that the American contingent will not be attending... I still believe this is more likely than not.

I am happy to keep the trip on the books even if only a handful of people attend. At this point if it's called Buda or not is immaterial. All I ask is that people give me fair warning if they wish to cancel and I will happily refund the deposit. I leave it to others to decide if they wish to organize an alternative trip or to rebook Kington for 2021.

I'm definitely up for keeping the bookings at Kington and Welshpool this year and repeating next year with our foreign friends.

I think it would be a shame to lose the Kington BUDA or to dilute it by there only being European participants. Better IMO to postpone it until next year if that is possible. I for one would be happy to keep my deposit in Sean's safe keeping.

If a get together can be organised somewhere else for the same dates count Jayne and me in. If Cavendish were to be a popular choice (maybe combined with Hollinwell - an hour away) I'd be very happy to set it up.

Buxton is a particularly pleasant place to stay.

It would be a sad shame if those who are non-UK/Euro based don't get to experience Kington and Welshpool etc at some time so a deferral of a formal Buda until 2021 has a great deal of merit ... with another 2020 get-together event held somewhere else convenient replacing it this year for those who can make it.

I don't understand the clamor to abandon this year's venue.

We have all committed to the dates and location. We have all made reservations with local accommodation providers and the two golf clubs we are due to visit will appreciate our trade, even if there are fewer of us.

We can do it all again next year. Same place, same time, just with a full compliment of players. Why is that so hard to fathom?

I have played precisely four, yes, FOUR rounds of golf so far in 2020. Two in howling gales with commensurate attached precipitation at Slaley Bog, sorry, Hall. Would have been five as of last Friday, but the climate gods decided torrential rain was suitable weather in which to play Monifieth Medal, so that was cancelled forthwith. Due to unfortunate clubhouse closure, we couldn’t even drown the sorrows.
I hope to get out with Nancy on Sunday, increasing my tally to 5, so at least I’ve got that going for me. I am as utterly gagging for it as a fat lad in a pie shop.
Count me in for inclusion in any type of golfing activity as humanly possible. I’d even consider crazy golf or perhaps, at a stretch, any Gary Player Course. Nah, on second thoughts, I’m not THAT desperate.
Let’s GOLF!!!

I wouldn't expect anything less!

The great thing about Buda is that I've never wanted to win a match as much as when I've been up against a Mike Whitaker, Lou Duran or Bill McBride but equally I've never been as happy to have a beer with those same opponents afterwards (usually when I've been well and truly beaten!)  ::)

Cameron, Finlay and Gregor are still up for a get together at Kington.  Frankly, we'll turn up anywhere but, like Robin, I can't see any reason not to stick with Kington and repeat that venue another year for those that can't make it this year.  Most of us have accommodation sorted and I know the venue was a major factor in my boys taking the plunge.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Whitty,

We will have the new handicap system kicking in 2021 I am assuming that my handicap will be a lot higher by then like the other members of the GB and I team so there will be more parity between the two teams  ;D ;D

Jack Weiner and I have pulled the plug on Buda 2020. I write this in a pissed off mood since our country is so clueless about this pandemic. I only see it getting worse or even changing when we are on the ground there.

Some golf will be deferred to next year.

I'd hoped to wait until the last minute but can't do so.   I must withdraw.  Cavendish, Delamere Forest, Formby, Formby Ladies, Beau Desert, Welshpool, Kington, Old Minch and Painswick must wait until 2021.

I had so looked forward to making new friends and raising a pint with the old and I sincerely hope the "locals" will carry on.  Life's too short and fine fellowship too precious.

Thanks Sean.

Sean, it seems the decision has been made for me. The Netherlands have been removed from the list of safe travel corridors yesterday, so I'd have to self-isolate for 14 days upon arriving in the UK. That cannot be done, so I have to pull out. This stinks. I hope I can join next time!

I continue to hold off on canceling my flights in the unrealistic hope that something will change quarantine-wise. But I guess it makes sense to go ahead and bow out of Buda. If some miracle happens, I'll worry about begging my way back in.

Doesn’t look like the US is going to impress the UK travel board anytime soon, so I am facing the reality that I will miss for the second year in a row. I hope that with new leadership we can get a national plan that, with a vaccine, will see me me at next years BUDA. 😢

With deepest, most humble apologies, I’m afraid me and the golfer of the house must regretfully withdraw. A perfect storm of other holidays, the ongoing unpleasantness and my arthritic joints has finally put paid to our previous intentions.
So sorry,
