I happen to agree with them. I think it takes the tournaments in between and destroys them. I lost my interest in those events and I think they'll die on the vine.  I think they are too close together for the players as well. We could have Pebble in January with some possible nasty weather.

Cary, I don't think they are too bunche together. The schedule really isn't that much different in terms of time between the five events. I just think they end too early. I like the last major in August.

I'm of the opposite opinion, if anything I used to tune out after the Masters because I knew it was 2 months before the next one...

I too kind of miss the August major, but it seems like The Open should be the last one...any chance the powers that be would push back and let the PGA go in July?

I think this was much more about TV and not competing (poorly) with football season.


I suppose we are all somewhat resistant to change but in the big scheme it makes sense but does seem to condense the meaningful season to about 4 months of the 12 month season. It will be interesting to see if the Euro or other tours jump on an opportunity and insert some big money events in the September void.

Its definitely a TV thing, between College and Pro ball there just isn't much meaningful space for golf on the weekends.

And given the season runs what 9-10 months out of the year, I don't see why they need more as its still longer than any other Pro sport I can think of..

I loved it, especially the Irish Open and Scottish Open buildup to The Open, which should be the final Major of the season.


When they figure it out, the US Open (Pebble this year) and PGA (Bethpage this year) should switch each year so that one is on the West Coast each year. Everyone loves West Coast Majors.


I was very surprised the the "Fedex Cup" basically conceded to College Football by finishing last weekend. They have no chance against the NFL.

This seems like a great time to experiment with some tournaments that end on Monday or Tuesday to avoid football.  For the life of me, I don't understand why the Hawaii tournaments to start the year don't run during the week.  They could air during primetime, everyone would see beautiful Hawaii in the winter from 5-10PM.  I assume that would be a lot more interesting than another Sunday afternoon finish with football on.

If somehow the Australian Open could be elevated to being a fifth major it could be held in the sand belt in February. It works for tennis. Why not?
