Belleview Biltmore in Clearwater Florida
« on: May 16, 2017, 10:14:46 PM »
The Belleview Biltmore in Clearwater Florida is scheduled to close on May 31 and under go a complete renovation. The course is an old Donald Ross that I've played for years when visiting my parents. I'm not sure how much of the course as it is today is original but it was a fun course to play and not your typical water lined Florida course.

Oh nice. I have been wanting to get there but have not been able to the last 3-4 times down in Florida. I am thinking there will not be much Ross left after reading the article.   Looks like it will have a new name as well, the Pelican Golf Club.

Again!?

The recently completely bunker renovation was amongst the most under-the-radar good work projects I've seen. I guess this means what I heard from a member at a nearby course is true and they are going to blow up something that was already quite good.

After reading the article, the tree removal could be a good sign that this is going in the right direction. Hopeful they don't modify the 15th hole too much, it's one of the nicest flat-site Par 3s I've played.

I wish I could, but I won't be able to get there until mid June!

I believe a long time ago when it was a private club the name was Pelican country club.

There always seems to be some confusion about the "Belleview Biltmore" Golf Courses. I used to play them when I lived in Clearwater back in 1979. The two associated with the Hotel are now called Bellaire CC. The 36 hole facility's better course was the South, although the North wasn't all that bad. These courses clearly had the touch of Ross on them. There was another course about a mile south of the Hotel on Indian Rocks Blvd that was at one time called Pelican CC; I believe it was associated with the Hotel at one point but appears to have changed hands and names several times. Although it was reputed to be a Ross course it was clearly not as good as the ones at the Hotel complex. Was this because of changes or a mailed in Ross design? I assume this is the Belleview Biltmore course that is being renovated; if so it's probably a good idea.

Pelican/Belleview Biltmore Golf Club is several notches superior to either of the offerings at present on either Belleair course. Not sure how long you played either course at Belleair, Pete, but any remaining Ross is few and far between.

Has anyone played or seen how the renovation of the Belleview Biltmore, now Pelican Golf Club turned out?
