Big Nellie or Big Bertha?
« on: July 20, 2019, 12:28:35 PM »
Not that it really matters, but is the name of the gigantic bunker on the old #17 of Royal Portrush Big Nellie or Big Bertha?  I have seen it referred to both ways.  And it shows both ways when Googled.  They talk about a replica of it being constructed on the new #7.

I don’t know either. My total guess is that someone used it as a not so complimentary comparison to a club character...

Couple of Portrush members on here who probably know.

Nellie

Big Bertha would be at Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver, BC

Its always been Big Nellie, nicknamed after a large lady who worked in the kitchen half a century ago.
