Only one in that area that I am aware of is the one by Yellowcraig between NB and Archerfield.

Not sure I know where you mean, Tommy?

I assume you don’t mean the original first three holes of The Renaissance Club?

Between the clubs and the water? North of Muirfield and west of Renaissance?

Not sure why you think that area might have been an abandoned golf course.

It’s linksland. But never a golf course.

Between the Renaissance Club and the firth. You can see old fairways from the overhead shots on the tv coverage. I tried on google earth but couldn't see anything.

I think those are natural corridors between the dunes, made by the wind over time.

Dunblane New and Bridge of Allen are a few miles SW.  Auchterarder(sic?) adjoins Gleneagles to the NE

Is that the land Muirfield was considering building a 2nd or women's course on?

Hey, no thread-jumping here!!

This is a thread about Tommy's hallucinations ONLY.

If you shysters want to start your own, imaginary-course thread, then do so on your own dime.

Or, you can just imagine it.

Tommy, I'm with you when it comes to seeing golf courses. I imagine plowing under those cemeteries, parks, gardens, and other wastes of land...all in the name of golf. Keep the dream alive for all of us, friend!!

Great thread!!

RoMo ...I was delighted with yer Sam Snead reference and that you aspire to keeping other peoples hopes, fantasies and delusions alive!  But to be fair the Scottish T.V. commentators the other day showed a barely discernible piece of furrowed land, from on high, that took their fancy as a long-forgotten golf course. They discussed the idea that perhaps it was a private course which may well have belonged to the forefathers of the landed gentry chap that sold the land so Tom Doak could get to work. So this idea has caught more than just Tommy's imagination (hallucination) and needs further investigation and research. That Fat Baldy Drummer lad lives quite close by I believe and should be co-opted to do this work and, from memory, he has form in this regard.

I think you're right. My wife says I see golf courses everywhere.

If that's the case, be careful driving in NW Nebraska. Tons of dunescapes that look like golf courses. . .

Lets put it this way, if there was an abandoned course adjacent to Muirfield, I am very sure it would have been rediscovered long before now!  Its a great dream boys, so keep dreamin'.

Mark, funny you should mention that. I drove from Denver to Maryland in June. I saw golf courses in dunes from Holyoke to North Platte. Some were extraordinary. They, like David from the marble, are just waiting to be uncovered.

In defense of Tommy and myself.

If you look at the site from various angles/elevations in Google earth (not Google maps), you can see several features that look like old green sites, bunkers, and playing corridors.  So it was at least plausible, even if a bit wishful and naive!  ;)

I asked a long time member about that recently and he said Hawtree looked it over many years ago and it was as dead as the dodo. But that's the thing about rumours, you can never quite kill them off....
Let's make GCA grate again!
