Many thanks for the shout out JK… It's nice to be remembered!
Truthfully, I happen upon this website these days about as often as I seek out a new golf course. Which is to say, practically never. But my erstwhile running buddy, Mark "Jethro" Pritchett, sent me a text with a link to this thread, so I thought I would chime in.
Pop Topp is correct, I am now domiciled in Park City Utah, having left Savannah in the rearview mirror. The South may well rise again, but I won't be around to see it!
There was a time, 10 and even 15 years ago, when I was playing 50, 60, sometimes 80 new courses a year. Or, as Cory Lewis might say, a productive summer!
I one opined in print that the only two things that could keep me from a thousand courses lifetime would be a blown elbow or a blown jet engine. But one day I just… Stopped. Got tired of the up in the air lifestyle, dragging my club glove, a.k.a. the rolling coffin, hither and Yon.
Still playing plenty but 95% of the time at one club only. Also lots of mountain biking and skiing, more than 85 days on snow this past winter.
Haven't written more than a grocery list in a couple of years, but I'm getting antsy so that might change.
Regarding our highly unexpected fifth major triumph five years ago, much of the credit goes to the estimable Mike Whitaker. I chimed in here and again, but Mike did most of the heavy lifting, particularly in the horse race. I consider myself to be the Rich Beem or Shaun Micheel of The fifth major… Out of the blue victory, then fade to oblivion.
If anyone makes their way to Salt Lake or Park city, don't hesitate to look me up!
