Holes that Stuck Out
« on: June 10, 2019, 08:41:26 AM »
As you can gather from several of my other posts, my wife and I just finished a wonderful trip to North Berwick and St. Andrews.  We played in order: Kilspindie, NB (2x), Elie, Crail Balcomie, and Kingsbarns.  One hole at each seemed to stick out for me as strategically well done, particularly the need to pick and execute the drive on the best line:

Kilspindie Number 16
NB Number 9
Elie Number 13
Crail Number 8
Kingsbarns Number 7

I know that Elie 13 has a fair amount of renown (it also is the only one that borders the sea directly).  Questions for those of you with more experience and expertise:

Good selections?
Obvious selections?
Am I just a sucker for holes that bend right to left?

Thanks,

Ira

Ira,
I have only played NB and Kingsbarns and are these the most memorable holes from each course or the best strategic holes architecturally?

At NB I really think Gate (hole 16) is a gem, just for the green complex alone.

At Kingsbarns I really like the 12th a long par 5 as it reminds me of Pebble Beach. Large green to hit, but obviously anything left is rinsed.
