While looking for something else, I stumbled onto this gem from 2010. Long live the King. Forgive the awkward appearance; it's the old site (pre-WordPress.)

Thanks for posting this, Ron. I was fortunate enough to have walked three courses with George. One was my home course, Hackensack, prior to our restoration work. The second was Sleepy Hollow, after their changes with George and Gil. The third was Old Macdonald in the GCA pre-opening event.

Whenever I think of George, I am reminded of his complete and utter joy in looking at a Banks-Raynor-Banks course. He did not play OM with the group, he just rode around in a golf cart and watched, but you could tell that he was almost brought to tears watching people hit golf balls on what was surely one of his proudest accomplishments in life.

George's story is a classic American success story that only GCA geeks can appreciate...

Nice to have a look back at some of George's thoughts on golf and the Mac-Raynor Banks era.  He was a very unique individual.  I was very fortunate to enjoy a round with him and Anthony Pioppi at Waunatonomy.  And, on a 90some degree day, he played and walked the course effortlessly, in long pants and no hat- exposing that great bald dome of his.  I could not get over his stamina.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.
