As the article's title suggests, the caddie doesn't expect to see many drivers off the tee. On the front nine alone, he says most players will hit irons on 1,3, 4, 6 and 8. Add the two par 3s and that could mean irons on 7 of the first 9 holes. He also says in the last Open there, DJ drove the par 4 4th hole, with a 3-iron.
Since the USGA seems unwilling to tackle the tech/distance revolution, what will they do the course 20 years from now, to try and keep it competitive for the world's best?
PS: can someone who knows the course explain to me why number 8 is so great? Hit a middish-iron off the tee, and another onto the green. Why is that superb golf?
