Arm End plan map with current routing.

If anyone can re-post this link as a photo rather than url link to pdf, I would appreciate it.

So, this is the current routing plan and use plan for all the various local interest groups that have provided both enthusiastic input and some rather negative input as to the use of this marvelous parcel of land.  Some want to leave it untouched, invasive species and all.  Some want a varying level of public usage from walking paths to historic site preservation.   Of course, we would like to see the world class golf course sited on this world class unique parcel of land which could yield a Monterrey peninsula - like quality of vista and rolling terrain for great golf course design.  Neil Crafter and Brett Mogg have their task set with a high bar to achieve for fitting in the land use with a quality golf course.  Have a look and see what you think.

Personally, I would rather have seen the 9th and 18 finishing in an orientation facing to the NW with the lovely city of Hobart across the strait as a backdrop.  But, I suppose the land usage plan constricts this to the extent that compromises must be made in order to serve all the interest groups.  The fact remains, from my fortunate tour of the property with Greg Ramsey and Dieter Jones one fine day, that the internal aspects of the property will yield a great course (perhaps even charmingly quirky and unique as to proposed routing) that world class golf will be offered, despite how the final routing is arranged.

Good luck to all as this project churns on towards realisation of a lovely golf dream.

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Dick,

Thanks for sharing this. Would I be correct in saying that what is being proposed for Arms End is the antithesis of what happened at Old Head? In other words a serious attempt is being made to not only build a golf course but also retain access for people who just want to walk and/or picnic.

If this is a proper interpretation, I applaud the plan even if it does compromise what might be the absolute best routing.

Lots of fwys sloping in the same direction.

I get it, maximize water front golf, but a little up and over, or cross over, might be nice.

Tim, not knowing Old Head except for the photos and comments, I can't really say what a comparison might be.  From my walk-about with Greg and Dieter, and conversations, I'd say they are doing a might job of working with many groups to try and meet diverse groups ideals of what the land package will have to offer many diverse users.

As Don is great at interpreting the topo lines, I definitely take his point about an abundance of slopes falling off the central core of the property.  Yet, my recollection is that many of these internal land parcel holes will have varied slopes slanting inward and outward.  I wish Neil or Brett would enter the discussion to explain their ideas.  But, I understand the sensitive nature of the process.  It has been a struggle and one can understand the desire not to make any statements that might be interpretted in a way not intended to have certain meaning.  There are always many out there who will parse every word to turn it to their favor of a sensitive argument like certain environmentalists and preservationists might want to shape the conversation.

But, I just have great hopes that we will eventually see a fine course come out of all the years of planning and cajoling the various interest groups.

Spotted a mention of this somewhere the other day so just wondering if there’s been any progress?

Looks amazing!!  Sorry to be “Debbie Downer” here, but what about the future of sea level rise?  This place looks like it’s a great candidate to be swallowed.  Rising sea level is a real threat to many sea side golf courses.  This was the first thing to jump out at me.

If the golf here was covered up, there would be no golf anywhere - it would be like The Handmaid's Tale everywhere, at best.
The cliffs are tall, those are trees, it could become an island one day...

Good call Don. Holes 8-11 could "easily" be flipped to help balance things out.
