Great find today!
« on: June 02, 2019, 06:04:39 PM »
Where I live there’s a street in downtown full of antique shops.  I have been in a couple in the past.  So, today I wandered in a few more and found one of the coolest books I have seen yet.  “Golf - It’s History, People, and Events” 1966 written by Will Grimsley and RTJ.  I haven’t read but a few pages in it, but the most amazing things are the full color-fold out routing maps of ANGC, Oakland Hills, PV, Pebble, TOC, Merion, pinehurst, Dorado Beach, Firestone, and Bellerive!  I wish I could show pictures! :'(   Cool to look at how different they are from the original plans to 1966, and up to now.  I’m excited to read this one!  Anyone else have this book??  I paid 15$

Sounds great John.
I just ordered one from AbeBooks.com for $15
They have several left from $20 and up.

John:

Just fyi

The RTJ SR drawings were (and are) near and dear to me as they were an eye opener to gca in my youth.  The "original" drawings were in Herbert Warren Wind's The Complete Golfer Simon and Schuster 1954, given to me as a birthday gift from my father.  In this version the drawings are beautifully rendered with a superior printing to the Grimsley version.

You might want to check out the Wind book.

Buzzkill Anthony strikes again  :-\ :-\ ;) ;) :D :D

That is good information. I go shopping on AbeBooks from time to time. Set myself a limit of cost. It's like Amazon for golf nuts.
