Playing companions

As I think I have mentioned more than once, my favorite playing partner is my wife, and my second favorite is playing alone. Generally, therefore, I do not look forward to getting matched up. However, the past two days we played North Berwick for the first time, and were paired up with a different and pleasant couple each day. Yesterday, the wife made a 2 at the Redan. Today, the husband of the second couple made a 3 at Number 13. It certainly surprised me how thrilled I was for them. I doubt it will change my view on favorite playing partners, but it was a very nice addition to two terrific days of golf.

Ira, please reserve me a signed first edition of your book-- presumably with the forward written by Peter.

Ooooo that's funny.  Tempered.

Playing golf with strangers is tough.  It would probably be easier to have a good time being paired in a couples format.  Glad you had a good experience.

Ah Peter,
"...tempered.." is perfect , as John alludes to. Nobody wants to harbour the idea that we can actually change completely! Bend in the wind yes.

And Ira I am delighted that these couples (presumably amiable Scots!) provided you with a pleasurable encounter!

Cheers Colin

 8)  Ira, I have to ask, did you play from the forward tees with your bride?  How about with the couples you mentioned?

Peter,

LOL. If you modify tempered with “temporarily”, you are spot on. As those of you who have extolled East Lothian generally and North Berwick (course and town) specifically know, it is quite difficult to not to be more embracing of life and people. Heck, we are even staying in a B&B which I have not booked in over 25 years.

And Colin, although the couples were American and Dutch respectively, we did bend in the wind literally, at least yesterday when it was a steady two club wind with some stronger gusts. My drive on Number 2 almost made it to the Firth even though it was low tide.

Steve, the birdie on Redan came from the Red tees, and the one on 13 from the Blue which as you probably know are not the back tees (White at NB).

Thanks to all for the good fun. Onto Fife!

Ira
