(OT) When do you have your member/guest?
« on: July 31, 2019, 11:09:25 PM »
Our member/guest is this weekend. I think it is a lousy time of the year for it in Virginia. It is hot, the superintendent is stressed because the first week of August is tough on courses, and a lot of people are on vacation.

Portland OR   mid-late July. Mid-low 80s, middling low humidity. Heat wave always a possibility.

Most of the clubs in and around Hartford County, Connecticut have them between 6/15 and 6/30.

I’ll never understand why M/G is held at this time in this area.  Timing couldn’t be worse as far as weather.  3rd or 4th week of September is perfect for the transition zone.

In this club-heavy district (specifically Westchester-Fairfield of the larger Met section), the M/Gs are all over the map...1 day, 2-days, 3-days, from early June to late September...

They almost have to be so spread out, b/c if even 1/3rd of these 60 clubs had it in mid-late September (as premium weather would indeed indicate) then they would start to shut out each other... and that's if we limit it to West-Fair, never mind the larger (130 more clubs) of Met section which includes LI and NJ...

Thirty years ago, it was a little bit different...there weren't as many "multi-day" M/Gs, and the 1-days were run in the middle of the week where they would least disturb member play...also the clubs' cultural identity was sharper (Gentile, Jewish, Mixed) and so the clubs tended to coordinate their M/Gs along those lines, whereas now those lines mean next to nothing...

Ours (Bay Area) is mid-June...same week as US Open.  Weather and conditions are great, and the long day allows for plenty of time to play without needing to start too early.

Sounds like lots of these clubs are saving the prime September- early October dates for themselves....can't say I blame them.

I don’t play in the member-guest. When it is held is a non-issue for me. But I’d much rather it not interfere with golf in September and October when the weather is great.

We had our Member Guest at Coronado in July, perfect weather for golf here in SD. Back I’m Mass. we had our Member Guest on Labor Day weekend. Our fairways were unirrigated and parched from the summer but we would always get some rain to green things up for the big event!

In Toronto my club has it’s M/G next Wednesday and Thursday. Taking up the course on the weekends would alienate those that don’t or can’t play.

In coastal NC in mid October.   The golf course is perfect but prime hurricane season.  Florence won last year.

Philadelphia here. Member/Guest was held last weekend, course is struggling, a number of greens and fairways are dying. We have a lot of disgruntled members. A letter was sent about what they plan to do but it’s bad.

Twin Cities club: Thu-Sat of Father's Day weekend.   Couple of other western suburb MGs are held last weekend of July/first weekend of August.
