Ardrossan Farm being developed

Ardrossan, the sprawling farm on the Main Line in Philadelphia is being developed into housing. I will post story if able.


Tom Paul told me one of my favorite golf development that never happened stories about Ardrossan. He pitched a land swap with his beloved Gulph Mills CC to the owners, and came close to making a deal that would have changed the golf landscape in the area. His idea, which was not acted on was way 😎 cool and it’s disappointing for a golf lover that it didn’t come to fruition.


Perhaps we can recount it to all our neophytes here on GCA as I go back thru the archives. It was quite a story!

Check out the fascinating interview with Tom on the “Feature Interview” site, Parts 1 and 2 from 2012.  It recounts, among a number of topics, that proposed land swap in great detail.  I’m quite happy the deal fell through.

I happen to stumble upon that story a few years back, and it still remains one of the most captivating and gripping stories that I have ever read on here. I've since re-read it a few times, and can't believe how agonisingly close it all came to going ahead. That said, I'm with Crenshaw - maybe it just wasn't meant to be...

Sorry for the confusion.  I am simply pleased that we did not give up our current location and kept our Ross/Maxwell/Stiles/McGovern/Gordon/RTJones/Fazio/Hanse design.  No disrespect meant towards Coore and Crenshaw.

Figured as much. Always liked Gulph Mills! Played my PAT there as a 24 year old wanna be in the early 80's. Somehow found a way
to get thru it without any train wrecks. Greens lovely>>>
