Corey,

I can tell you this from personal experience.  When you call a game loose and let stuff like that go for most of the game, and then tighten up at the end, this is when you have the most amount of angst/grief and are more prone to getting something wrong.  It always works much better to call it tight to start to set the tone for the game...and then allow for a bit more leeway at the end as the players get tired.

As for video reviews, I whole-heartedly agree that we should do them, especially at this level.  I know it sucks for the refs ego and all to be over-turned but the focus should be on getting things right.

P.S.  I don't understand why compensation for NCAA players would be somehow different than everything else?

Do you go to work and everyone is paid the same? My company has over 10k employees and there are hundreds and hundreds of different pay scales.
Are professional athletes all paid the same?  Even on the same NBA teams you see massive disparity in salary. For example here are salaries for GSWhttps://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/GSW.html

Why can't college Football or Basketball or any other NCAA sport be the same.  Of course a 5 star recruit would be more valuable and receive more compensation than a 3 or 2 star recruit.

We have title IX and female athletes deserve the same pay as male athletes and once we arbitrarily start determining the "worth" of a college athlete we know ladies will be mal-treated.

Because they are NCAA players and college in the USA is/was one of the GREAT institutions that has made the USA unique in the world.

Please let me know if there are ANY companies in Utah older than BYU, and  which were founded before 1875? Should we really run BYU the same way as the Utah Jazz, which started in New Orleans?

Once again,

These same inequalities abound in every corner of the world today.  How is paying these athletes zero while a few rich people get even richer "Better" than putting in a system that at least attempts to mitigate this?  Will it be perfect?  Of course not.  But any compensation will be more than what they getting now...

Mike nice photos of the old BYU academy, but I'm not following the arbitrary nature of "If you are in college, you shouldn't be paid".  Value is value and everything has its worth.  What I don't understand is why anyone would be in favor of gross exploitation of people, or is that "American Values" as well?

How much would you pay to buy Golf Club Atlas.com from Ran?

Once again Kalen.

Women athletes will get nothing.  That bothers me.

Mike,

I'm not sure where you're headed with that last question.  I don't know how much GolfClubAtlas is worth, but it doesn't mean there aren't people who do.  I'm sure there are lots of people in the website biz who would know and be willing to pay...

Corey,

Women athletes like Professional golfers, basketball players, tennis players, etc?

Women athletes that play in NCAA sports will not be compensated.  Male athletes in the revenue sports will be.  Why would anyone seek a back-door gutting of title IX?

Title 9 is bs. Check the TV ratings of Sunday's women's bb final vs. Mon. Men's final. All am(?) athletes should be free agents. The NBA doesn't want to babysit 18 year olds. For every Lebron there are 9 Kwame Browns. If a kid doesn't want to play in college there are pro leagues in foreign countries and the G-League will be avail next year.

I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Giving women athletes the same opportunities to play a sport in college is BS?  Not sure how to even respond to that but if all you care about is TV ratings go right ahead and discriminate.

Not exactly sure what it means for "all amateur athletes being free agents"...but when NCAA institutions give 150,000 scholarships to deserving kids I would be loathe  to change for the 20 or 30 that may be able to make a few bucks not being an amateur.

Zion did not have to go to college but in the end regardless of how "little" he got paid he got a very good deal from his basketball skill.

I think the new rule for basketball is going to give all the power back to the athletes--where I believe it should be.  Go to the draft whenever they want and be able to return to college if they don't like the draft results, unlike presently where entering the draft makes them a pro.
This may not be what some of the "basketball schools" want--and it may disappoint their alums who want to pretend that these kids are really students.  But it will benefit the great players, let the lesser players get a free education, and maybe most importantly eliminate the hypocrisy of some otherwise good universities that demean their names and reputations by playing the presently silly game of "one and done."

Carl

How much do you propose we pay a men's or women's lacrosse team as they progress through a tournament? or a ladies basketball team?
Pay every male & female athlete on every team (revenue or not) $2k per regular season game and $10k for each post season game.  This amount is not even close to a rounding error in the big $$$ picture.

Double-dribble...use of replay...the truth of the moment...the spoils of the victory... the shame of defeat...gender equity ... Title IX...how much should every D. I athlete be paid... in like 37 moves.

This thread one of the billion particulate truths that our watching is the greatest poison...

And sure, go ahead, do whatever you want...pay all the athletes along whatever scheme, but it should be completely divorced from the schools in everything but name... just like thje mindless corportae sponsored arenas/courts/fields/rings of honors...pay Zion williamson his share of the latest rake, but he shouldn't be anywhere near the Duke campus (nor should have Bobby Hurley or Elton Brand or Christian Laettner).

Actually Carl...and I suspect you know this, your proposal is more than a "rounding error" and not sure I should point this out because I am sure you are not serious but a Softball player will be payed $100,000 minimum while a football player much less?

Better to just drop scholarships for all, which I can accept a lot more than all this crying about the kids being "taken advantage" of.

Yes, drop all this shit, pay them and they shouldn't even be takign an academic class... you oughtn't be at a fine research public or private institution with billions of endowment to play fucking sports... want to know why our youth has been like 14th in STEM?

Same for Ball State's Women's Field Hockey... hit the books kids...forget this largesse to play what is ostensibly an intramural sport for personal fun.

Oops :)

Happy to be wrong, again. My Dad was a UVa grad, and while we are moaning about the NCAA, the 9:17 PM start time is a killer! Had to watch the highlight reel this am.
