2019 New Places Played Goal
« on: March 25, 2019, 02:35:22 PM »
Now that most of us are on the cusp of the golf season, this is the time I like to get my affairs in order and plan out my golf for the coming months.

Each year I try to set a goal for "new to me" courses played.  What better way to learn to appreciate great architecture then by expanding ones palette.

How many new places will you get under your belt this year and are you especially excited about any?

Outside of replays in my area, I'm currently looking forward to an upcoming venture to Maryland.

Also on the docket is a Thanksgiving trip to the west coast of Florida (and ideally a return visit for the new year).

My 2019 "NEW TO ME" GOAL:  8

I recently moved to the Phoenix area so most places will be new to me. I have Quintero and Southern Dunes high on the list.

I don't have a number but courses that I am scheduled for-Merion, Crystal and LACC North, all courses that I have wanted to play badly.
Probably will be about 10

I just played Quintero and if you can draw the routing after playing you are a better man than I.

Last week I made my first-ever trip to Hilton Head. So I'm starting 2019 with four new places played: Harbour Town, Haig Point, Atlantic Dunes, Heron Point.

This summer, I'll be hitting northwest Ireland, and I'm planning to play at least six courses I've never played before. Very much looking forward to that trip.

All told, I hope to play at least 15 new courses in 2019. If all goes well, it should be more like 20.

If I can predict by which places I'll be excited to play in 2019 I will have failed.

Already planned as new for me:

St Enedoc (both courses), Trevose, Perranporth, Bude & North Cornwall.

I壇 like to make one other England weekend as well to a new place, maybe Brancaster / Hunstanton / Royal Worlington.

And I suspect I値l make it to Narin & Portnoo finally.

I usually average about 8-12 new courses seen per year and with a trip to Scotland in August all booked, and nine of the 11 courses on the trip being first-time plays, I'll likely be on the high side this year.

Scotland first-time visits will include: Royal Troon, Royal Dornoch x2, Brora, Castle Stuart, Renaissance Club, Murcar, Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay x2 and Trump Aberdeen.

I hope to hit a few local par threes and executive courses with my son this summer as well to add to the total.  It's always great seeing new places.

I don't really have a goal in place, just pick destinations according to how much vacation I have available.  I have to weigh golf trips with going back to see my family.  Will probably have 15 new courses this year and will be in the England, Ireland and a couple in the states. Had a great time in OZ and will go back for sure.

I hope to see a few courses in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Texas. I don't see as many new courses as I used to.

On tap:  Kilspindie, North Berwick, Elie, TOC (fingers crossed), Kingsbarns, Pinehurst #2 (first time post-restoration), PH#4, and PH#8.

With some luck: Streamsong.

I have said before: no way would have known to play Kilspindie and Elie but for the folks on this board.

I'll definitely be playing Sweetens Cove for the first time at some point this spring, and likely East Lake.

Those are the only two new courses I'm sure of, although I'm going to try to play Tom Doak's Heathlands course in Myrtle Beach at some point. I also may have the opportunity to play Settindown Creek, Country Club of Asheville, and Holston Hills.

I'm expecting 5 new to me courses. Anything more than that is icing on the cake.

Mostly done for the year with Snow Canyon-Entrada, The Ledges and Falcon Ridge in UT/NV. But I have to play the Gauntlet at Silvies Ranch to regain my every course in Oregon mantle.

Definitely Japan for me. Working on a big trip in the Fall to see most of the Alison courses, plus a few others. Also want to try my hand at Japanese park golf.

Besides that, the upper New York region is somewhere I'm hoping to explore this summer. Starting in Westchester area at Fenway and Wykagel, work my way up to Ekwanok and Glenn Falls, then over to Rutland. Am I missing anything in that area? Seems like a pleasant place to wander.

Safe travels to everyone in 2019!

If I'm guessing, I'd say 12-15.

My only round of the year so far was a new one for me - Congaree - and it was amazing.

I hope to sneak in a round this coming Monday on my way to Augusta and may get to play somewhere while in Augusta.  That could be another 2 new ones.

Also hoping to play Ohoopee Match Club on my way to Sea Island next month.  I'll be there officiating the SEC Championship and will try to play Frederica while there.  Both new ones to me.

I have a trip scheduled to SW Ireland with 7 new to me courses.

I have a conference in Monterey in November and Poppy Hills will be one round, and hopefully I can sneak in one more.

I need to get to Memphis and play Chickasaw & Memphis CC.  I haven't played either of them.

Maybe I can make it to 20 if I'm lucky.

I知 at 10 so far this year. Goal would be around 40. Really depends if I do a big trip in the summer... that usually is 15-20 new courses.
