Huge Tree Clearance at Woking
« on: March 20, 2019, 04:58:05 PM »
Those who follow Woking GC on Twitter will be at least tangentially aware that something has been going on there this winter. I played the course today, and the scale of the tree clearance is really impressive. The whole triangle delimited by the second and fifth greens and the eleventh hole has been cleared. It doesn't take a huge amount of vision to imagine that entire hillside clad in heather in a few years.

I'm told by secretary Richard Pennell, formerly of this parish, that the members are blown away by the work, and that we can expect it to continue. Huge props to Richard, and to course manager Andy Ewence.

I have photos and will try to get them up tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing your photos, Adam.
Woking is a really special place. Opening up some of those vistas is a great idea.
I thought there was an interview with Richard on here somewhere, but couldn't find one.

Pennell buys a wood burning stove for his lounge and 3 months later they are chopping down trees.  ;D
