The wrong club well struck is better than the right club hit poorly.

My flushed 9-iron into the breeze and bulkhead on 17 at TPC Sawgrass begs to differ.

Eyewitness here.

Of course, my chunked 8-iron didn't make it either.

Paraphrased, "Just lifting the club with your arms is not a golf swing and probably the reason your rotator cuff hurts."

It was instantaneous relief.   My very next drive with an actual shoulder turn went about 50 yards further and beautifully straighter than anything I previously hit that day.

To touch the inside top of my golf shoes with my toes. At address of course.

I don't remember the mans name but it was on a golf course just outside East St. Louis where I liked to play in college. I was a plus handicap at the time and liked to pick up little money games with guys I would approach on the range. This guy had seen me around and didn't seem all that impressive on the surface. He looked up at me as I approached and said "Son you don't want none of this." We became good friends and went on to play most every day, gratis. I heard that he had won a bunch of tournaments but don't have a clue who he was. But then again, I can't remember my roommates names either. Such is youth. Even today when I start to feel like I'm just a bit off I touch my toes to the top of my shoes.

John, what did that tip do for you? What did it fix?

I've never been the best putter, at least until a half dozen years ago. The best tip I got was from another player, whose name, face, or even place I don't remember. He told me to change my attitude and think, "I can't wait to get to the green so I can make this putt."
Wow big difference in my putting.

Tommy,

Touching the top of my shoes with my toes redistributes my weight. My personal MOI tends to get out in front of me.

Two years ago, I had the privilege of playing a round of golf with Ian Woosnam. I played quite well, but putted extremely bad. Ian told me to focus on the moment the putter head actually hits the ball. Just another way to say that you should keep your f....'n head down I guess. But the tip worked and I still use it with every putt I make.

"You're not good enough to get angry."  ;)

Sounds funny, but it does take the pressure off.  I can't expect to hit perfect shots if I play only a few times per year.  Managing expectations and all that.

No one can help me but I did help Whitey Ford once. We had played  the front nine at Pine Valley and after an exasperating front nine the great Yankee pitcher looks at me and says , ok Mr Golf Pro help me He had hit his big slice into the left trees a bunch of times on to the detriment of his scoring.

I laughed and said aim further right. He shot 39 on the back and said it was the best lesson he ever had. Made my month!

P>S>  he was a great guy , I had worked as a gofer for the starter at Adios (FLA) the previous winter and got to know him there , he was the "man" when all the Yankees got together

Spoken like a true Keynesian.

I've been working on two tips that might contend.  Going back, stop fanning the club inside with my hands and setting the wrists early, a move that was praised by one of the site's most beloved figures (thank God I stopped him as he was trying to mimic it).  Instead, I am trying to graze an imaginary tee on my takeaway 12" inches straight back.

The second, and equally as difficult, is getting my chest on the downswing to go left shoulder up high, right shoulder down toward right-center field.  My habit of sliding from the top with flat shoulders is one of golf's deadliest moves.

Just think if you used it on the putts you missed as well!  You'd be unstoppable!  ;D
