The day is coming when certain chemicals can't be applied and trying encourage f&b will be more problematic.

Not sure why you think this Sean. I would say that the exact opposite would be true and with fewer chemicals available encouraging browntop and fescue becomes the easier option for well drained courses especially links.

Yes, that is what I am saying in effect.  If clubs want to obtain high percentages of fine grasses they need to work on the problem now, because later it will be more difficult to achieve this.  Obviously, I am working off the premise that most links clubs would prefer higher percentages of fine grasses...which is why there has been somewhat of a trend toward doing this in recent years.

I live now and grew up on Bermuda, but still prefer Bent.  I find an up hill chip into Bermuda is one of the hardest shots to hit consistently.

I know what I hate, and it's bermuda grass in the rough.   Here in SE Pennsylvania, our roughs are definitely experiencing a expansion of bermuda.    I've lived here since '93, and there's a helluva lot more of it here today.

I just can't figure out to hit of the bloody bermuda.   Especially around the greens.

When I go south it always takes a couple of rounds for me to figure out Bermuda and I have played south for forty years. I agree about chip shots into the grain. They are just downright scary.

My favorite surface is the UK fescue links turf. I’m a homer, but the turf at Deal has become outstanding due to the efforts of our outstanding course manager, James Bledge. He is a young genius!

In the States I have a couple of favorites:

Streamsong - the playing surface there is fantastically firm, fast and consistent. As close to links playing conditions as I’ve seen over here.

Cliffs at Mountain Park - the fairways and surrounds here are some type of zoysia... don’t know which. The surface is very consistent through to the putting surface and an absolute dream to hit off of.

As for fescue I’m the States... I’ve played a good number of courses with fescue greens in the States and not one of them has been good enough to be acceptible at a third rate course in the UK. I can’t figure out why they can’t get it right over here or why they just don’t move on to something more fitting with their environment.

I played Mt Park the year it opened. I don't remember any Zoysia. Was it built with it?
