19 entrants this year, so that means three preliminary round matches, then 4 rounds.  Splitting the contestants into 10 Northerners and 9 Southerners and using random number generation, the 3 preliminary matches are:

Ian Galbraith vs Marty Bonnar
Michael Graham vs Clyde Johnson  and
Robin Hiseman vs Tony Muldoon

Then:

(1) Galbraith/Bonnar vs Pearce
(2) McIntosh vs Wiggett
(3) Carlton vs Gallant
(4) Cheslett vs Graham/Johnson

(5) Boon vs Reader
(6) Lawrence vs Payne
(7) Chaplin vs Krume
( 8) Muldoon/Hiseman vs Stephens

Then

(9) Winner of (1) vs winner of (2)
(10) Winner of (3) vs winner of (4)
(11) Winner of (5) vs winner of (6)
(12) Winner of (7) vs winner of ( 8)

Which produces a Northern conference final:

(13) Winner of (9) vs winner of (10)

and a Southern conference final

(14) Winner of (11) vs winner of (12)

and a grand final between the winners of those.

Can we try to get the preliminary rounds played by the end of May, please?

Michael, Niall and Tim: Perhaps we could make our two matches a four-ball, given our rough geographical proximity?


Any ideas for a venue...I'm running out of central-belt courses to explore for the first time, but on my list from West to East: Skelmorlie, East Kilbride, Greenock, Helensburgh, Troon Darley, Ranfurly Castle, Cowglen, Pollok, Cawder, Cathkin Braes, Glenbervie, Mortonhall and Royal Mussleburgh.


I'd be open to a longer trip, somewhere like Glencruitten or Seahouses...or any other suggestion for that matter?

I'm up for playing our two matches as a four-ball if that suits Tim and Niall. I know the idea is to play at neutral venues but I'd be happy to host the three of you at Mortonhall. My lousy golf will counter any home course advantage. I know Tim's not played Mortonhall, I suspect Niall hasn't either or at least not for a long time.

Just to clarify if Hiseman is playing Muldoon in Preliminary round surely its either Hiseman or Muldoon against myself rather than Muldoon or Krume. Also that Krume should be playing Chaplin in Match 7 rather than Hiseman?

Just for the sake of information would it be possible for individual handicaps to be displayed on the brackets? I have no idea what most of my potential opponents in the northern half of the draw play off. It's always nice to know what you're up against.

Would love to finally see Mortonhall as it's been one I've wanted to see for a while yet. Unfortunately, the first free weekend I have now is 22 June!!


If we think we might be able to get an evening game in May during the week, then I could definitely try to make that work - however, I appreciate that might be limiting, so happy to bow out if I end up holding things up. Just let me know!!
