Footage of MacKenzie from WWI?
« on: November 12, 2018, 03:43:35 PM »

Just been watching Peter Jackson's incredible "They shall not grow old" which had been shown on the BBC as part of the armistice weekend.
At one point there's some footage of a field doctor treating a casualty.
Wishful thinking on my part? Or could it be?
Cigarette in mouth. Quite artful right hand position.

The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

Marty,

I don't think he worked as a doctor in WWI.

Marty,

Great eye. That could be him and according to Wikipedia he did serve in the military during WWI, not as a Surgeon but as a camoufleur.  Its very plausible he could have done some patch work in the field as shown there.  ;)

P.S. Give the recent passing of Stan Lee, who was a bigger presence in their field?  Dr MacK in golf course building or Stan Lee for Comics?

Arthur would obviously have been first choice to play the good doctor in the biopic!

My understanding is that he worked in the South African Boer war--but as a camouflage expert, not a doctor.  Nice theory, but no WWI as I understand it.

An enlightening and very emotional programme well worth viewing.
As to any similarity to A Mac, would not a camouflage expect aim to remain out of sight? Or is there some reverse camouflage here where a lookalike is made visible? :)

Marty, I assume your answer to my comment means that I am wrong about MacKenzie and WWI?  What are the facts?

My understanding is that MacKenzie served in WW1 as a camouflage expert having transferred from the Medical Corps to the Royal Engineers in May 1915. His work involved frequent visits to the front advising on the building of trenches and gun emplacements, so it is entirely conceivable that he also put his medical expertise to good use when required.

If you look at the picture of Dr. MacK on page 5, you can see the resemblance.

Excellent work by the way on that PDF, hadn't seen that before.
