Elsewhere my friend Michael Whitaker wonders why no one is building/emulating Lawsonia Links.  Perhaps this course (which looks pretty darned good on my computer screen, I must say)  is an example why.  Perhaps it's much more expedient, fashionable and commercially viable to sling paint (or sand in this instance) like Jackson Pollock than to sweat the minutiae like the Renaissance Trinity.

I hope Doak goes a different route at Sand Valley, using Cape Arundel as an inspiration.

Just mixing it up a little bit.

So this is Ohoopee Match Club, in Cobbtown, GA, designed by Gil Hanse.  I believe at least 9 are to open this year (if not already)....does anyone know if this is still true?

'corn' = Cobbtown

onions = nearby Vidalia, home of those tasty sweet onions

architect gets around = Olympic course in Brazil + Scotland and generally in high demand

A friend played 72 holes last weekend, and loved it.  Fully open and operational, walking only w/ caddies, snakes, multiple routings / alternate tees, all sand- based — what’s not to love?

Perhaps the owner/investor wanted something of this magnitude. As architects will tell you, what they want and what the money requests are often fairways apart. Look how long it took our patron saint, MK, to decide to build a more intimate golf course: 4 at BD, 1 at CL, 2 at SV and others around the world. It's a process...
