"When it goes strictly private there will be times when most of the cottages (15) will be full."

I think the probability of 15 cottages (or 5 for that matter) ever being built at Dormie Club is approximately zero.

Nothing to do with the design quality of the course, conditioning, pace of play, very pretty and peaceful setting, etc. ---- just plain economics. Lots of Pinehurst/Aberdeen accommodation options, lots of great golf options in Pinehurst for travelers and residents alike, West End location a bit remote (especially after dinner)...

Build it and they will come?  Maybe, but I'm not a believer.  Having said that, I hope I am wrong.  Be good all around. And it is a very nice course as most everyone agrees.

Every other club in Dormie Network has 10+ cottages, so it would be odd for them not to build any on the namesake club?

My understanding is cottages will be built at the same time as the clubhouse.  Building was supposed to start already but hurricanes have delayed permitting.  2019 likely start date now.

If you don't want to join Dormie do golf a favor and join somewhere else. With all the deals in the golf world today you are either a joiner or a destroyer.

Negative. Victoria National has 2 cottages.

Anthony,

Victoria built a couple more a few years back and renovated the original two cottages. Best I can tell they have 32 beds in 16 rooms. I'm not sure of the international standard for counting cottages. With the no less than amazing influx of new members I expect that they will build more.

On pace of play, I have never seen Victoria's tee sheet more full since we became part of the Dormie Network. Foursomes of golfers on vacation do tend to play a bit slower as exemplified by every GCA outing. Let's not be so quick to judge people out for a good time.

No, not crowded. The owners advertise "15 minute spacing of tee times". Didn't seem the case on the tee box. Mostly 2somes and 3somes on the course, just 2 groups that seemed to bring things to a halt. I get that it happens, but the pro shop didn't seem to think it was a problem.
I'm surprised there were pace of play issues given these circumstances. One of the greatest things about Dormie is the design allows you to get creative with pace of play problems.  When I worked there if we had a package group we knew would hold people up, we could start a couple groups on #4.  Playing 1 to 3 after they finished 18 was never a problem.

If we had problems on the course we could utilize the loops.  If a particular group was holding up play and there weren't many people behind we would have a group play the 10 to 13 loop after finishing 6 then go to 7 after finishing 13.  By the time they finished 9 and got back to 14 they would be well ahead of the problem group.  Of course there are groups that prefer to play the course in sequence but that was mostly the exception and not the norm.  There is always a solution if the course isn't too crowded.

Of course if the tee sheet is full you can't do any of these things.
