Having had a quick scan of the photo tours that Joe posted, and knowing very little about Tillie, I'm left wondering what his strengths as an architect were ? Not saying that I didn't like what I saw but neither was I blown away, which is often the case with photos, even some as good as Joe's.
Was it routing, or green complexes or what ? Interested to know.

I know he relished his par 3's and saw those as a primary defense against good players. Didn't put a premium off the tee but on approaches.
He thought of himself as building pretty complex greens and spent quite a bit of time with I guess micro undulations.
He was a good golfer and may have even played in the US open. He was rich and I think lost it all during the depression.
