I noticed a thread on here about the GCA folks in the midwest having a knockout match play tournament.  It would be too late to do this for 2018, but anyone interested in doing this for 2019 in Southern Ontario?

That's a long drive to play golf, but St. Thomas is a wonderful course.


Anyone else - we only have four so far.


I don't think we have had any GCA get togethers in Toronto in over a decade, so many of us have never met in person.

If we can work this around my teaching (M-F) schedule, I would cross the border for you guys. I might be able to get Kevin Lynch to travel with me, to get us to six golfers for the moment.

Now that 2019 is upon us, is anyone else interested in this?  We should have at least 8 to get a tournament going.  With 8 we could potentially do a round-robin in two groups.  I am sure TJ Rule would be interested as well.  Please forward to anyone else you know.


If the drives aren't too long then we could even have two matches in a foursome.


Ian Andrew and Jeff Mingay - any interest?  Or are you guys just too busy during the golf season?

Great idea Ian - a winter get together could be a good way to get every together again (or for the first time for some/many).  And for many it is a less busy time.


Not belonging to a club is not a problem - I am sure that someone else could host you or play at a public course.


Hopefully we get a few more responses on here.  The Hamilton area could be a good central meeting place if we have folks coming from Toronto, Niagara, London, etc.

I would be interested in a winter get together and / or a summer knockout tourney.

I live in Markham so an Oakville to Hamilton location would be fine in February or early March.

My club is St. Andrew's East, north of Markham / east of Aurora.  Would be surprised that many have played it.  Don't confuse with St. Andrew's Valley!  Perhaps Ian and I could play?  He could see the complete changes made in sync with his long range plan from about 2005.  The last two holes changed in 2015-7 were modified, from Ian's plan some, by Doug Carrick.
